On Deck

Here is a collection of photos starting from the bow and moving aft.

If you wish to enlarge a picture, just click on it. You can return to normal by clicking the X in its top right corner.

All the following pictures show equipment which we have added since Bluesipp was launched - with the exception of the double stem head roller, - that was fitted by the yard but the basic boat had only a single roller with a rope rode and danforth type anchor.

As noted on the Ground Tackle page the stainless Lewmar handles 10mm chain.  This feeds through a very solid bronze stopper to take the load when at anchor.    The teak deck was renewed in 2008 by the excellent shipwrights in Phuket.

Another view of the deck and windlass

The Avon dinghy stows conveniently forward of the mast and is very securely attached to through- bolted deck eyes.

The 15kg Bruce kedge is stowed  inside the port shrouds

Mast steps provide easy access all the way to the mast-head.
They have proved a great help for maintenance of equipment on the mast and ensure that regular inspection of the rig is not put off!

Perhaps the most important safety feature which we have added is the grab rail around the spray hood.

This avoids the danger of grabbing the spray hood frame and provides a very secure hand hold when leaving the cockpit and going forward to the mast or foredeck.

And equally important, when returning.

We have also replaced the after section of the  life-lines with a solid rail which joins the "push-pit"

This also increases the security around the cockpit, especially with children on board.

"Gates" are fitted and on port have deck fittings to take the boarding/swimming ladder.

The gate on starboard is similar but I have included this picture      -  just to show the wonder of the anchorages you could visit !

Here are a couple of pictures of the sun awning which is easily rigged and gives wonderful shade on deck and helps to keep all cool below.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              The picture on the right also shows the hose connection which allows rainwater collected on top of the awning to be fed to deck containers or directly to the main tanks.
And of course you get another view of the splendid decks!

And finally a view of the after deck.

The Yamaha is mounted on the stern rail as is the stern anchor in its purpose-built launching cradle to starboard.

The Hydrovane self-steering has given many hundreds of miles of entirely trouble-free steering, equally reliable when beating or running before the Trade Winds.
